The following resources may be useful for learning additional information about creating successful classroom environments for children with ASD.

  • “You’re Going to Love This Kid”: Teaching Kids with Autism in the Inclusive Classroom by P. Kluth (2003)
    This book is written as a guide to educators who have children with ASD included in the classroom.
  • Children and Youth with Asperger Syndrome: Strategies for Success In Inclusive Settings by B.S. Myles (2005)
    This is guide for working with children with Asperger Syndrome in the classroom.
  • The Organization for Autism Research offers information on applied research to the autism community, and has many free guidebooks on various topics for educators.
  • KidsHealth has a special children’s section on children’s health problems. It can provide kid-friendly language for explaining ASD.
  • OASIS: Online Asperger Syndrome Information and Support is a helpful Web site created by parents of children with Asperger Syndrome that offers information related to legal resources and links to diagnosis information, classroom management, and research.
  • The Autism Society of America provides detailed information on a wide range of autism related topics for families and educators. They also provide a list of ASA chapters throughout the country for support and additional resources.
